MFAW - Chapter 150 - Journey to the Snow Mountain

Snowy plains and forest—after passing roughly five kilometers of canyon, you enter the northern mountain.

Here are the most expansive snowy landscapes, primitive scenery sealed beneath cliffs on all sides, and the most mysterious snow‑country legends of the entire G Nation.

In the history of G Nation, there was once the saying of a Northern Mountain Kingdom, and related written records do exist.

The whole Northern Mountain is called G Nation’s treasure house; all kinds of rare plants and animals can be traced here.

But with the rotation of stars and the change of sun and moon, this once paradise of plants and animals turned into a snow mountain frozen all year.

Natural competition, survival of the fittest—the plants and animals able to live here are already the most adapted to the extreme cold.

After crossing the canyon, one enters a forest hung with frost. Here, throughout the twelve months of the year, the ice lasts as long as nine months. Because of their high cold‑resistance, these trees are quite valuable.

Moreover, since this place is well protected, there is the saying of a human forbidden zone, and no one can come in to interfere with the growth of plants and animals here.

Therefore, everywhere one can see ancient trees that have grown for hundreds of years, blocking out the sky and sun, with luxuriant branches and leaves.

“Why do I feel colder after coming in?" Xia Chen shook the snow off his body.

After leaving the canyon, the snow in the sky stopped. At this moment the moonlight was bright, the white glow reflected through the snowfield, and the entire mountain was like daylight.

It really isn’t necessary to use a flashlight for illumination.

“Its freezing in here, luckily it isn’t snowing inside, otherwise it would be hard to track." Fei Ran continued forward following the fluorescent paint on the ground.

Fu Yuxiu and Wen Li walked side by side behind. Wen Li stopped in front of a tree and raised her hand to pat the trunk.

The entire tree was covered in white ice and snow, with icicles hanging like transparent white crystals, as if being in a dream.

“Boss!" Xia Chen called out from a distance.

Wen Li raised her head—on the distant ground were blossoms of unknown goose‑yellow flowers, covering the entire region.

In such ice and snow, to have this kind of scenery is indeed rather strange.

"This flower blooms in ice and snow?" Fei Ran fixed his gaze on the sea of flowers on the ground.

It is indeed rather strange.

“You have to admit, these flowers are quite beautiful." Xia Chen spoke as he bent down, about to reach out and touch.

“Don’t move!"

Wen Li stopped him just in time. Xia Chen recoiled as if startled, then turned to look at Wen Li.

“If something’s out of the ordinary, it usually means something’s wrong," she explained.

Fu Yuxiu crouched beside Wen Li, examining the little flowers closely—six petals, rounded edges, and the sea of blossoms stretched wide.

It’s as if a small protective circle surrounds this place.

“Don’t act rashly for now—there’s something on these flowers,” Fu Yuxiu said.

Xia Chen and Feiran leaned in, straining to look—inside each blossom’s stamen lurked an insect, about half the size of a little finger.

Its wings were milky white, the body a strange mix of ant and caterpillar, lying still in silence.

“Snow‑spirit insects,” Wen Li spoke.

“You know them?” Fu Yuxiu glanced sideways at the little girl beside him.

Wen Li took two transparent bottles from her pocket and placed the insects, along with the flowers, inside.

“Anything in this world that can be used as medicine—I know it.”

Beside them, Xia Chen stared wide‑eyed at Wen Li’s bottle—his boss really does see everything as medicine.

What can this little thing cure?

“Xia Chen prepare the shovel and hoe. This place is the greatest treasure trove of medicine.”

Wen Li’s eyes lit up, and she spoke out in excitement without meaning to.

It was the first time Fu Yuxiu had seen this little thing so full of life—this was her favorite thing.

“Something doesn’t feel quite right,” Fei Ran said.

The snow‑spirit insects, once lying quietly on the blossoms, suddenly grew restless. Their wings trembled—and then, like a swarm of bees, they rose together to attack.

The snow‑spirit insects gathered in the sky, blotting out the heavens and blocking the moonlight that poured down upon them.

“Are they about to sting us?” Xia Chen asked, swallowing hard as he looked up.

The sheer number of these insects—when they gather, it’s truly astonishing.

“Raise the torches,” Wen Li ordered.

Fu Yuxiu stepped forward, shielding her tightly behind him. Watching the swarm grow denser, his face darkened.

Xia Chen pulled out the electric torch he’d brought from his backpack. Once lit with the lighter, the flame at its tip burned, bringing a faint warmth.

“How come your bag has everything in it?” Fei Ran asked in disbelief.

Did this guy move the whole warehouse here?

Xia Chen gave an awkward smile. The boss had once given him a bracelet, said to be a high‑tech product that could store anything inside.

He tested it—just a couple of days ago, he even tossed a whole bed inside.

But none of this can be revealed to them.

“These bugs don’t seem to dare come closer—are they afraid of fire?”

Fei Ran looked up. The gathered insects swirled in the air, yet not a single one came closer.

“These insects have a very short lifespan, prefer extremely cold things, can enter through eyes, ears, mouth, and nose to eat the internal organs. Generally they live only one month, reproduce in spring, autumn, and winter. In summer their pupae bury in the soil, and in autumn, when the first snow arrives, they emerge.”

Xia Chen lifted the torch high, looking at Wen Li. "Will it come to eat us?"

Such a tiny insect—how can it be so deadly?

“It craves extreme cold—our body heat isn’t what it desires.”

In other words, the snow‑spirit insects feed on venomous snakes and other cold‑blooded creatures—so naturally, they carry deadly poison themselves.

“Let’s move ahead first.”

Xia Chen carried the torch at the center, while Fei Ran walked ahead of him, his expression alert.

The snow‑spirit insects fluttered thickly in the air, instinctively veering away from the torches in their hands, not daring to draw near.

Fu Yuxiu pulled Wen Li close to his side, shielding her securely.

“You really know quite a lot.” He lowered his gaze with praise. “Our Li‑bao is truly remarkable.”

Wen Li replied flatly, "Read more books, and you’ll know too."

Records of this insect appear in an ancient text—it is considered a prized medicinal material. Though steeped in deadly poison, it is also an absolute cure.

“I haven’t read much—so I’ll have to rely on you to teach me.” The man leaned in and playfully bit her cheek.

Xia Chen’s torch blazed fiercely, and the group passed safely through the domain of the snow‑spirit insects.

“Boss, we’ve got to go this way.” Xia Chen followed the trail of glowing paint ahead.

Having walked such a long road, they still haven’t caught up with Li Li and them. The paint she carries must be almost finished.

But these people were brazen—their footprints stood out clearly in the snow, with no attempt to cover them.

As if certain no one would dare to follow.

“This path leads straight into the core of North Mountain.” Fei Ran studied the map in his hand.

If that map they carried was accurate, then a little further ahead lies the very heart of North Mountain.

It is the core region from which no one has ever returned alive.

“Luckily the weather’s good tonight—no snowfall in the mountains, and dawn is just two hours away,” Xia Chen said.

Why would they drag Li Li into the heart of North Mountain?

What on earth are they looking for? Going to the most dangerous place is one thing—but dragging Li Li along as a burden?

Wen Li tucked the bottle away and fixed her gaze on the footprints in the snow.

On the redwood beside them, the thick trunk bore whip marks crisscrossing in stark clarity.

“We need to pick up the pace.”

A sudden sense of dread welled up inside her.

“There’s a special magnetic field here—it disrupts all signals, so helicopters can’t get in,” Xia Chen warned.

It was also a reminder that reinforcements wouldn’t be coming anytime soon.

Fei Ran nodded—before entering here, he had already summoned people from the Dark Palace.

It will take about an hour just to get into the mountain.

In short, it was down to just the few of them now.

“Speed up!" Fu Yuxiu looked forward as he spoke.

At the command, the four broke into a desperate sprint—thanks to their regular training, running posed no problem.

From above, four figures could be seen racing madly across the snow—their movements lithe, as agile as cheetahs on the tundra.

The mountain lay bathed in bright moonlight, silence broken only by the whistling wind.

After passing through the dense woods, the group arrived on the snowy field.

Unlike the woods ahead, all you can see here is an open plain, and the thick snow has not yet melted.

After having traveled such a long distance all night, Li Li couldn't bear it anymore and she collapsed onto the snow.

“General, the woman has collapsed!!”

Xiao Yan hurriedly knelt down to check her condition. Li Li's face turned red and she closed her eyes and couldn't help but breathe unevenly.

The leader turned around, looking down from above at the person on the ground.

“Carry her,” the man ordered.

Xiao Yan didn't understand what this person meant at all, so he squatted beside Li Li and didn't move.

This journey was harsher and longer than anything Lili had endured in her entire twenty years.

Things were worse—her cheeks were burning, and she was no longer lucid.

A man stepped in, hauling Lili up with little care and dropping her across Xiao Yan’s shoulder.

In that instant, he understood what it meant.

“There’s still a long road ahead—make him move quickly,” the leader commanded.

The pitch‑black gun muzzle aimed at Xiao Yan, compelling him to get up from the snow and continue forward with the fainted girl on his back.

“Awooo!!!!”

The distant howl of wolves froze the group in their tracks—on such a snowy plain, the wide expanse was the wolves’ perfect domain.

The snow wolves of this land, unique to the snowy domain, thrive in packs—such rich terrain is surely theirs.

Xiao Yan lifted his gaze, scanning around—wolves swarmed thick in the distance, closing in, while the man beside him raised his gun.

With ash‑gray coats, the wolves here looked enormous—true wild beasts of daunting size.

Sharp teeth exposed, saliva steaming down from their tongues, the wolf pack stared menacingly at the people.

As if spotting the most delicious prey, blood surged with excitement, and they lunged swiftly.

“Open fire!” the leader shouted.

The wolves converging from all directions fell at the sound of gunfire.

A black wolf that leapt past the bullets straight at the leader was lashed away by a silver chain flicked from beneath the dark cloak.

With lightning speed, the leader snapped the chain back.

Xiao Yan, with Lili on his back, stood at the very center of the crowd, watching the leader’s movements with perfect clarity.

He thought he knew who this person was.

Here, danger lurks everywhere—even if they escaped these people, without a map there’s little chance of safely getting out.

“The North Mountain is called a forbidden zone for good reason—along the way they passed many adventurers frozen here.”

Intact corpses were few—the most terrifying were the countless bleached bones.

Terrified of the weapons in their hands, the wolves shrank back a few steps, then vanished into the boundless snowfield.

“Find a place to rest—we’ll move on after dawn.” The leader lifted his gaze to the vanished moon overhead.

A dim light seeped into the sky—the night was ending, dawn approaching.

The closer they drew to the core, the more grotesque the things they encountered; after walking all night, the group was exhausted.

Once they found a place to rest, the group busied themselves with building a fire.

Xiao Yan looked around—this was a grove of redwoods, and in the distance he could hear the sound of flowing stream.

The leader walked over, tossing down two tablets and a bottle of water from his pocket.

Xiao Yan understood his intent and fed the medicine to Li Li.

He couldn’t understand what these people were saying—throughout the journey, it was Li Li who translated.

It seemed these people wanted something in the mountains—that’s why they kept taking them forward.

From their words and actions it was clear—Li Li mattered greatly to them, and under no circumstances could she die here.

“General, in about half a day we should reach the core forest. With Advisor Feisi’s map and notes, it won’t take long.”

The leader stood beneath the tree, gazing into the distance.

“What are you thinking about?”

The soldier behind him fetched water and brought it over.

The soldier who went out to forage soon returned, carrying a skinned snow rabbit in his hand.

The leader turned, gazing at Li Li lying in Xiao Yan’s arms, and approached in deep thought.

He raised his hand, pulled off the hat Li Li was wearing—and his eyes widened.

Why are they so similar?

“You few, come here,” he called out.

The soldier, busy with roasting the rabbit, came over. "General."

“You all participated in the Intercontinental Special Forces Reconnaissance Competition; do you find this face familiar?”

At his words, several soldiers studied Lili’s face for a long time.

“Now that you mention it, she does look familiar.”

The leader rose, his gaze darkening as he looked at Li Li’s face—the outline beneath the hat had been strikingly similar.

Besides, that was two years ago—someone so young could easily have grown and changed in that time.

And yet, it isn’t—this is a woman, and she looks too frail to even wring a chicken’s neck.

So weak—utterly beyond weak.

“General, what’s on your mind?” a soldier nearby called out.

The leader regained his senses, saying, “Nothing…"

“Daybreak is near—we must reach the heart of North Mountain before tomorrow night."

When the time comes, with this woman’s blood as the offering, success in the mission will be assured.
