WIITMITGP - Chapter 8 - Zhang’s Little Thoughts

Xu Zhichun went up to the mountain today and had no intention of showing casing the potatoes and sweet potatoes. After all, it would be too much to say that these potatoes and sweet potatoes were found in the mountains, and it would make the locals look like fools.

People have been roaming around these mountains for generations, and everyone has a rough idea of what grows on the mountains.

Maybe it’s not clear how many types of thatch weeds there are, but sweet potatoes and potatoes are crops with quite distinct characteristics. Potatoes have a very noticeable flowers, and if there were any, someone would have discovered them long ago. Sweet Potatoes are even more prominent. A single plant can grow a lot of vines and if they existed, there is no way it could escape the villager's notice.

Xu Zhichun went up the mountain today to get some fresh bamboo shoots and mushrooms.

There are also some in the fresh produce warehouse. If she finds one on the mountain, she has a reason to pull out ten kilograms from the warehouse.

With this in mind, Xu Zhichun was not very active when looking for mushrooms, but he was lucky enough to find a small patch of red mushrooms and pine mushrooms, and later picked up some straw mushrooms.

Bamboo shoots are even more abundant at this time of the year. It is impossible to dig them all out. She only gathered about six or seven kilograms, and decided to take the shoots with their outer husks. The peeled husks could be fed to the pigs.

The wild vegetables by the ditch at the foot of the mountain are also growing particularly plump and tender. She picked some by the way and today they have pig grass.

While gathering pig grass, Xu Zhichun accidentally discovered Konjac, and her eyes suddenly lit up.

Everyone knows that this stuff is poisonous, so no one eats it at all, but she knows that it can be made into konjac tofu, which is delicious whether it is mixed with cold dishes, stir-fried with vegetables, stir-fried with meat, or made into a chicken pot with chicken pieces. If the white part of the Konjac is taken it can be made into Konjac Flour. It can also be made into white Konjac strips which when stewed, stir-fried or boiled have a completely different taste--very crisp and delicious.

Xu Zhichun decided to make this konjac tofu.

This is something she can do now, and it is very simple for her to make, but others wouldn't know how. Moreover, the ingredients are plentiful and easy to obtain and there is no way she can run out.

Since no one wanted it, she found a large area next to the ditch at the foot of the mountain, covering more than ten acres.

In addition to here, there are also other places.

Without hesitation. Xu Zhichun went home with a basket on her back and put down the bamboo shoots, mushrooms, pig grass, and went back to start digging konjac again with a basket and a hoe.

Konjac grows well anywhere, and she easily dug more than half of the basket, each one bigger than a rice bowl.

The more she digs, the more it is really addicting and she can hardly stop.

If it weren't for her small frame that she could not carry so much, Xu Zhichun would have definitely dug more.

She carried half basket worth of konjac on her back and came to the river first, where she cleaned it thoroughly before taking it home.

There is no well at home, so she has to carry water, which is very troublesome.

Well, there are boxes and barrels of mineral water in the harbor warehouse. She could still use them if she needs water and doesn't want to fetch them.

Xu Zhichun was washing konjac when she suddenly heard her aunt Zhang asked in surprise: "What are you washing? Is it Taro? Why doesn't it look like one?"

Another woman was also confused: "Yeah, it looks like taro, Zhichun, can it be eaten? Why did you dig so much of it?"

Xu Zhichun inwardly thought that she was unlucky, but she had no choice but to stand up and greet them with a smile on her face: "Elder Aunt, Aunt Hua."

This Aunt Hua seems to be Lu Laoliu's wife. She is not familiar with the Lu family and has little contact with Aunt Hua. But seeing how close Aunt Hua appeared to be with Mrs. Zhang and noticing her unabashed probing and starign gaze, Xu Zhichun found her thoroughly distasteful.

She wanted to make konjac tofu to sell. Since she couldn't hide it from anyone, so she said, "This is konjac."

Mrs. Zhang was bewildered: "Konjak?"

Aunt Hua suddenly remembered, "I asked why this thing looks so familiar. It turns out to be ghost taro. Someone in our village thought it was edible before, but was poisoned and almost died. Why did you dig so much?"

Xu Zhichun: "In my hometown, it's called konjac, but here it turns out it's called ghost taro. There is a snack in my hometown made from this konjac. I want to try to make it."

Xu Zhichun is not a local, she is the wife brought back by Liang Minglang from outside. It is said that her home is far away from here. Liang Minglang and his brother had lost their parents long ago. He brought a wife home on his own, and the families of his eldest and second uncles naturally had no say in his marital matters. They were more than willing and did not care where Xu Zhichun came from.

Otherwise, it wouldn't look good for a paternal uncle to meddle on the marriage prospects of his orphaned nephew.

Mrs. Zhang sneered: "If you are poisoned——"

Thinking about it again, wouldn’t it be better if this person was poisoned and died?

Xu Zhichun nodded: "Well, I always have to think about the future, and how much money I can sell it for."

Mrs. Zhang had a look on her face that is delighted if she sold this poison and killed a few people. She thought that she would be arrested and beheaded by the government, so she was even more happy, "Haha, then you can sell it. You are really getting more and more capable aren't you?."

Mrs. Zhang did not hide her expression at all, her calculations were clearly shown on her face and could be seen through at a glance.

Xu Zhichun was too lazy to pay attention to her and smiled modestly: "I want to raise Mingxuan, so I have to grit my teeth and do it."

Mrs. Zhang sneered and deliberately stayed away from Xu Zhichun while washing her clothes, as if she was afraid of being contaminated by poison.

Aunt Hua's eyes rolled around, and she jokingly said with a smile: "Oh Zhichun, it's not like you didn't die last time, and now you don't want to live anymore, right?"

Xu Zhichun felt nauseated and said coldly: "It has nothing to do with you."

Aunt Hua laughed loudly: "Look, she's still angry, hahaha!"

Xu Zhichun couldn't bear it, picked up a handful of water and threw it at Aunt Hua. Aunt Hua's face and body were all wet, and she was furious: "You little brat, what are you doing!"

Xu Zhichun said coldly: "I still want to ask you what you want to do? Have I hindered you in any way? Do you think it's funny that I was heartbroken and wanted to die for my husband? Now that I have recovered and only think about raising my late husband's brother, do you find that funny? Do you think it's appropriate to laugh and make a joke out of this? Do you want to force me to death or something? If you are not convinced, let's go, let's find the Village Head to judge this matter right away! Come on!"

Xu Zhichun said this and about to drag Aunt Hua to the Village Head's house.

Of course Aunt Hua refused to go, but she didn’t dare to offend Xu Zhichun again. She pulled her hand back angrily: “Who is acting crazy with you?”

She said that she would no longer wash her clothes here. She glared at Xu Zhichun fiercely, then took a basket of dirty clothes and found another place to wash them.

Xu Zhichun still squatted down to clean the konjac.

Mrs. Zhang's eyes widened in surprise, and she glanced at her before scolding her for a while: "Aunt Hua is an elder after all. How can you be so rude? Is that how you talk to you elders? You have no manners at all."

Xu Zhichun no longer wanted to tolerate Mrs. Zhang, "The younger generation have their own rules, and the older generation have their own rules. Elders who are kind, gentle, and feel sorry for the younger ones are called elders. What kind of elders are those who only expose people's wounds and make fun of them, and are full of vicious calculations? They are called old hags!"
