SFMLTEM - Chapter 7 - The Vast Difference of Treatment of the Two Son-in-law

“Welcome to His Highness the Crown Prince, Your Highness’s presence really makes the walls of this humble house shine.” Deputy Minister Wen knelt down and said loudly.

He was looking at the gate early in the morning, and when he saw the figure appearing at the gate, he immediately knelt down with the sons of the Wen family.

The many guards and servants behind them also knelt down at the gate of Wen Mansion.

"Everyone, get up!" The Crown Prince's voice sounded like a spring breeze from above their heads.

“I am here specifically to make a proposal, so you don’t need to be nervous, let alone make such grand gesture.”

After speaking, he took the lead in walking towards Deputy Minister Wen and helped him up with his own hands.

“Thank you for your consideration, Your Highness.” Deputy Minister Wen said with tears of gratitude, and stood up. He was extremely satisfied with his first impression of the Crown Prince’s son-in-law.

The Wen family members also stood up straight. They saw that the Crown Prince seemed much calmer today than before.

There is no longer the usual condescending and arrogant air, but a bit more humble and approachable.

This is all for the sake of their sister Zhu'er.

The crowd watching at the gate of the Wen Mansion felt envious when they saw that His Highness the Crown Prince was so tolerant to the Wen family.

It is said that four years ago, when the Crown Prince married the Crown Princess, he did not even go to the Lu Mansion to propose!

The second young lady of the Wen family truly lived up to her reputation, gaining fame in the capital at the age of ten, and earning the special attention of the Crown Prince.

People are in high spirits during happy events. The Crown Prince was already handsome, with sharp eyebrows and starry eyes, but today he looked even more majestic.

His jet-black hair is tied back with a white jade hairpin, which further shows his nobility.

The long procession carrying the betrothal gift followed the Crown Prince, and behind the team was Young Master Xiao, who also came to the Wen Mansion to propose.

But Deputy Minister Wen didn't wait for him. After seeing the Crown Prince, he took the Wen family's young men and led the Crown Prince into the house.

Even the housekeeper didn't stay to wait, and the onlookers could only sigh for Young Master Xiao with their words.

“Hey, they are both sons-in-law, but their treatment is very different. Deputy Minister Wen is really something.”

“The Crown Prince is the most favored prince by the Emperor and the Empress. Can this be compared to the heir of a fallen Marquis house?”

"........"

Xiao Jin himself didn't care about the attitude of his future father-in-law. He sat on a tall horse and looked at the gate of Wen Mansion with a complicated expression.

When he heard his father say that he would marry the eldest daughter of the Wen family, he was very happy and at the same time felt self conscious.

However, if he doesn't marry her, the eldest lady will definitely marry someone else, and the hasty wedding will make the little girl a joke in the capital.

He has military merits to protect him. After marrying her, he can give her a new official title so that her life won't be so difficult in the future.

Unfortunately, the huge Marquis Mansion can’t come up with a decent betrothal gift, so he would still owe her!

He lost his mother before he was one year old, and he relied on his own efforts to grow up.

At the age of eleven, he became seriously ill and almost went to see the King of Hell because he had no money for treatment.

Of course it’s because he doesn’t want to live anymore, living has become too tiring.

However, he was saved by the six-year-old Miss Wen. He still remembered the staggering little girl walking towards the door of the clinic.

Seeing him being thrown out by the people from the medical clinic, the young girl put her hands on her hips and asked angrily, "Isn't your medical clinic supposed to be saving lives and healing the wounded?"

There were two strong men standing at the door of the clinic, looking at the little girl who was very cute.

One of the strong men tried to reason gently: "Little girl, you don't understand. This patient is already dying, and he doesn't have money to pay for the medical bills. We are powerless to save him!"

Hearing this, the little girl retorted indignantly: "If you don't have money, you can't get treated? Does it mean you will only stand by and watch the patient die?"

The burly man's face changed slightly, but he explained patiently, "It is said that the patient is very ill and will die if there is a slight mistake. Not to mention that he has no money... Alas, there is nothing we can do!"

“You carry him in for treatment. I’m going to the pawn shop to pawn my jewelry.”

As the little girl spoke, she took off the gold hairpin from her head and put it into Xiao Jin's hand: "Here, this gold hairpin is for you. If I don't come back in time, you can use it to pay for the medical expenses."

The burly man at the door of the hospital saw the gold hairpin in his hand and really carried him in.

The little girl really didn't appear again. Fortunately, Xiao Jin also had two valuable accessories on him at that time, which were given to him by his maternal grandfather.

Later, after he recovered from his illness, he found out that the little girl was playing outside with her brother and sister.

Unintentionally offended her sister, she was beaten by several brothers and sent to the clinic alone. Later, she was caught by her brothers and taken back.

It was not until then that Xiao Jin realized that there were people in the world who were living a difficult life as as he did, so the next year, Xiao Jin, who was only twelve years old, signed up to join the army.

He wanted to make a name for herself and marry this poor little girl. From being an unknown nobody, after six years, at the age of eighteen, he finally rose to fame in one battle.

He was personally appointed by His Majesty as the Third Rank General who conquered the North. In the same year he was also granted the title of heir to the Marquisate. That year, the little girl was twelve at the age of arranging a betrothal.

When he returned to the Capital to receive his title, he privately told Young Minister Wen that he wanted to marry the eldest lady of the Wen family.

Because it was in private, Deputy Minister Wen told him clearly that his little daughter had been designated as the Crown Prince's concubine.

But his younger daughter is naughty and he doesn’t know if she will be willing to marry. If the younger daughter is not willing, he will use his eldest daughter instead, so he won’t talk about marriage for the time being.

Xiao Jin felt that his current position was not enough. If he performed meritorious service again, he could ask for the title of Marquis of Zhenbei. If he was ranked among the three excellencies, he could ask the Emperor for a marriage.

Two years later, he defeated the Beidi Army again. Unfortunately, he was seriously injured. After many diagnoses by the imperial doctor, his leg disease prevented him from going to the battlefield again.

Although he was personally conferred as a Cavalry General of the First Rank, he felt that being lame, he was not worthy of the little girl.

What made him even more desperate was the fact that there was a rumor circulating in the capital that the second young lady of the Wen family believed in one lifetime, one pair for the rest of her life.

Others may have said that Second Miss Wen is just speaking casually; An official concubine of the crown prince, they cannot be one couple for the rest of her life.

Only Xiao Jin knows that his little girl has been bullied by that vicious woman since she was a child, and that vicious women may run away from marriage.

But he is already disabled and powerless. If he were healthy, he would have asked the Emperor to grant a marriage to him and the little girl, so that she would not be allowed to enter the East Palace.

Over the past year, he has been looking for reknowned doctors everywhere to treat his leg, and the reward from the Emperor has long been spent!

At this time, Wen Mansion sent someone to send a letter to his father, intending to make a good match between the two families and saying that they were a good match.

Let the two younger generations of the family come together and create a beautiful story, although it is said through the parent's arrangement and the matchmaker's words.

But if he doesn't want to, no one in the current Marquis Mansion can do anything to him!

Thinking of this, Xiao Jin had already jumped off his horse and walked into Wen's house using his long sword as a crutch.

In the Wen Mansion Hall, everyone in the Wen family was dressed neatly early in the morning and knelt at the door of the hall to greet the Crown Prince.

Wen Qingwan is not dressed up, but is dressed appropriately. She has never been able to outshine her younger sister since she was a child.

The Crown Prince saw Wen Mingzhu at a glance, wearing a white dress embroidered with golden plum blossom patterns, which made her skin even more white and translucent.

She wore her hair in a cloud bun with nine phoenixes hairpins holding pearls in her hair, and her earlobes were hung with tourmaline gems and pearl pendants.

Tied around her waist is a soft pink sash outlining her slender waist like a delicate willow. The Crown Prince had already helped her up in public and naturally placed his hand on her slim waist.
